"Cereal,
Porn, and Donkeys: Part of this Complete Breakfast"
|

Do
you pine for a delicious bowl of Nintendo Cereal System?
It may be long gone from grocery store shelves, but
at least you can savor the fruity, berry cereal in the
all-new 1988
Ralston Nintendo Cereal System feature. It's fortified
with not only 9 essential vitamins, but the greatest
ingredient of them all: sugar.
As
promised in the last update, I added Super
Donkey Kong pirate with plenty of pictures and a
sample music track to the pirated section. This game,
unlike the other Donkey Kong pirates, is not a copy
of the SNES series but of Donkey Kong Land on the Gameboy.
I
continue to add more of my collection to the merchandise
page. Here are the new additions:
-Raccoon
Mario Acme Plush -
Dated 1990 - Front
/ Back
-Super
Mario Bros. 3 Walkie Talkies
- 1990 Micro Games Model No. SMW-3: uses 9-volt battery
in each walkie talkie - Front
of Box / Back
of Box / Walkie
Talkies / In
Box / Instructions
/ Warranty
/ Pidgit
on Flying Carpet Shout Out / Pidgit
Is A Squawker
-Zelda
II The Adventure of Link Figurine - (Mint
on card) - Front
/ Back
/ Close-up
Lastly,
I uploaded some photographs of my first Nintendo porn
box just in time for the upcoming heartfelt greeting
card holiday, Valentine's Day. This one is from Hacker
and is called "AV Hanafuda Club."
Nudity inside, so beware: Front
/ Back.
While
you're in the mood for sexiness, you may also want to
check out one of the more notorious pages on NES Player,
8-bit Love Machine
(nudity alert, again). Keep hope alive!

PIRATE
GAMES:
I don't know what took me so long, but I finally got
around to hooking up my Adaptec Gamebridge USB capture
thingy to share some screenshots and video with you.
It came in handy because I had a backlog of game pirates
to add. They are (in no order): an interesting 4
in 1 multicart [containing "Contra" level/weapon
select + "Jackal" + "Daiva" + "Pretty
Fighter"], Mario
10 (Kung Fu Mari) [with video!], Mario
16, Super
Mario14, Super Donkey
Kong 2 [new cart scan!], Rockman
7, Adventure
Island 3, Street
Fighter 2010. That's all for now, but stay tuned
because I have a couple more to go through, including
a Donkey Kong Country original pirate.
ARTWORK
PROTOTYPE:
One of my favorite items in my collection, I added the
original artwork used to make the 1989
Super Mario/Legend of Zelda II Nintendo Power lunchbox
by Aladdin. Learn more about the process in the non-game
prototypes section.
You'll want to check this one out!

find out or risk dying unfulfilled of his guru knowledge.
NWC
STORY SUBMISSION:
Frank Westphal lived the Nintendo dream: he attended
the 1990 World Championships and made it to the semifinals
(although, unfortunately, declined to do the fruit snack
Mario rap. Maybe in the next life...). Frank wanted
to share his own personal experience attending the infamous
Powerfest with other NES fans out there, and show off
some of his NWC swag that he picked up at the contest,
including an official
guide and the most (for the lack of a better word)
ghetto
NWC cap in the world (those are the sweat stains
of a true player). If you're as enamored by the contest
as I am, go now
and scroll down the page to savor his own account of
the Nintendo event. I don't know about you, but I'm
suddenly hungry for some fruit snacks and Rad Racer!
MERCHANDISE:
Finally for today, Bimmy Billy and
Jimmy Lee action figures from Tyco arrived on store
shelves throughout this great nation roughly 14 years
ago, and just now have I gotten my hands on them. Let
me tell you, it was well worth the wait. They're severely
rocking, and if you don't believe me, you can talk to
the hand, child! You can do karate dragon punch and
kick-him-in-the-balls flying kick and... that's about
it! But there's this glowing* dragon mark on their chests!
Totally boss! See more of their deadly plastic
karate styles (and some just plain fun photos) in the
merchandise
page under "General Nintendo." (*note: figures
do not glow)

"Gaming
Magazines: Now & Then"
|
Lisker
has written a provocative editorial "Why
Nintendo Power (and All Gaming Magazines) Sucks These
Days" detailing his opinion on the state of
current gaming magazines (no sir, he don't like it).
Do you agree? Disagree? Discuss your thoughts on the
topic at the messageboard.
Another
NES Lego submission has come to us. This time it's of
Metaleggman's 2'1" Samus Aran sculpture and his
nearly two foot Raccoon Mario (among other Lego beings),
which can all be found on the NES
Lego page. It seems people can't get enough of Nintendo
and building things these days.
Number
#27 Official NES Player has been added: Congratulations
goes out to Adrian Sanchez!
Not only do you become a part of the site, but by submitting
your information, you grant me power of attorney over
you. Want to sell your soul, too? Send me a photo and
your info, and become an official NES Player today!

"Its-a
me, Nintendo New Year"
|
The
festivus pole was taken down today and that symbolic
gesture of tossing it into the garage means that the
holiday season is officially over. Not to worry my little
NESers, NP goes cheering into the new year with this
newest update.
I'm
pleased to announce that the NES
Player messageboard has done away with authorizing
accounts because.... a.) it's a hassle for newcomers
who want to post right away, 2.) it's a pain in my rear
end to go through the many e-mails to authorize, and
finally c.) new security measures will be enabled to
fight off the onis and bad vibers. So sign up, post,
and lend us your brainssszzz!
I
have been slowly going through my backlog of e-mails,
some which have unfortunately been deleted because of
going over my mailbox limit. I will try to reply to
as many as I possibly can. It's best to e-mail me back
if you have not received a response.
As
for some actual updating, readers Richard Talbot (from
the U.K.) and "Mode7" have constructed some
NES-inspired Lego creations that's sure to make you
smile and cough up multi-colored toy bricks. See
'em here and send me your own, and though I enjoy
Mario and Link Legos, preferably I would like to see
more of the more elusive Nintendo characters getting
the Lego treatment. Why not sculpt a beautiful Panesian
model? Hey, it's of a nude woman. You can call it art.
Diljá,
whose accented name left me scrambling to find the damn
symbol on my keyboard, has let me in on a little secret
to the Super Mario Bros. 3 pirate featured
on this page. Scroll down to the bottom and be a
cheater.
Christopher
Maye had a interesting piece of information to share
with us NES fans on the merchandise
section. On
the back
of the Punch-Out!! trophy boxes it says "Mac
Jabs Don Flamenco," however it is Glass Joe who
is the one being jabbed. Was Donny boy once a planned
trophy or did somebody at Hasbro forget to read the
instructions? It is an epistemological question that
will be mused for years to come by NES fans the world
over.
The Nintendo
World Championships 1990 feature now includes scans
of my genuine
ticket and guest
pass. I have also included a photo of my framed
official Nintendo Powerfest/World Championships 1990
poster. Every time I walk past it I think to myself:
"Cal-i-forn-ia, Cal-i-forn-ia." I
then find a pair of neon pink shorts and commence into
a break dance rountine whilst reciting the stuttered
mantra.
In the
Super
Mario Bros. Super Show TV page, I added a
photo of my recent animation cel acquisition. If
the cel image looks familiar, you can see from
this picture that it was originally used as the
art for the front cover of the VHS jacket "Mario
Meets Koopzilla". The colors are incredibly vivid
for its age. A wonderful piece, surely fit for the Louvre
(not that I would ever donate it to them Frenchies!).
Back to
the merchandise, I put up some pictures of my carded
King Hippo. Love
me the Hippo. (You,
too, can have a mission in your otherwise meaningless
life: to collect all 12 Nintendo figurines!) I was
going to take a photograph of my two Mario stockings
hanging over the fireplace by the twinkling lights,
but I got caught up in the Christmas mood (read: drank
too much egg nog) that I only remembered after they
got stored away. Hopefully next Christmas you will get
to see them up.
Normally
I
would recommend a visit to the Winter-themed
games page around this time of year, but since last
weekend it was in the 70's here in the Northeast, I'm
frankly not too in the mood to play a game of Snow
Bros. Fuck you, Michael Crichton! If there's no
such thing as global warming, explain to me why my Snow
Chuck snowball thrower has been gathering dust in
my closet! Yeah, I paid good money for that thing, too.
To
end on
a much more serious note, this update is dedicated to
Brandon Murphy of California
Raisins
prototype fame whose life was tragically taken away
from him on Decemeber 18, 2004. Please take some time
away from your busy schedules to say a prayer to Brandon's
family and friends. Brandon was a true player at heart
and will be missed dearly.
