Introduction
------------------------------
In
probably one of the greater pirate games ever made for the
8-Bit system, Kart Fighter is a total mutant of two games,
Street Fighter II and Super Mario Kart. The SFII feel is from
the time that this game was made along with the background
and fighting style. The user has the SMK feel from the introduction
screen and characters in which you can choose to play.
Plot
------------------------------
Are you the greatest
Mario Kart player? Defeated all 20 tracks and numerous friends
in battle mode? You cannot be the ultimate player until you
beat your opponent in one on one combat! Your job is to select
a familiar SMK player and beat everyone in a round robin style
tournament that is the same thing you do in SFII. Once this
is completed, you repeat, and repeat, and repeat ... and kill
yourself.
Sound
------------------------------
This is one of
the games that screams, "Damn my ears! I need to get
drunk to escape this reality!". Yes, it's that bad. It
ranks up there with Karnov. And this is the only time I will
ever mention Karnov in my life. It is THAT annoying. I would
rather listen to random elevator music than having my TV audio
turned on listening to this nuisance.
Graphics
------------------------------
This game has
one of the better graphics when compared to other pirates.
The cartoonish feel makes the player want to sit there and
just stare at how goofy these characters look. You don't have
to be drunk to tell that the programmers actually put some
effort into drawing some characters and not just sprite hacking
Mario with an afro ... did I just say that?
Challenge
------------------------------
There is not
much challenge in this game. The difficulty does raise as
you pick the harder difficulty ratings, but you can kick your
opponent into the corner and just slam the opponent over and
over again to his/her death. Being able to play cheap and
the computer being unable to defend takes away from the challenge
aspect of this game.
Gameplay
------------------------------
Kart Fighter
is rather easy to control. You have a punch and a kick button.
Doing multiple controller actions lets you jumpkick, slidekick,
and uppercut. As mentioned in the challenge section, you can
jam the buttons to constantly slam your opponent over and
over.
Conclusion
------------------------------
A great game
to pass 20 minutes of your time. I would probably play this
game before you go to your college class or work. Then you
can have conversations with your friends about this game and
you'll probably be the laughing stock of your friends. If
you're into Princess Lana from Captain N being "Peach"
and Toad being named "Kinopio", this is a MUST HAVE
for you!
