Our first rejected game is code named Super Negro Bros. Of course, that wasn't slated as the final title.. or was it? Nevertheless, some other ideas for names are as follows: Super African Bros., Super Just Say No Bros., Super Nubians, etc. The whole concept of a SMB re-make was designed to reach out more to the minority groups (mostly in America) by changing the color of sprites and to "touch a brotha" as leader of the project, Yoshi Hanamaya, has said so well. It was an act to make Nintendo's image look better.

The big N was anything but near-sighted. They realized changing a few sprites wouldn't suffice as an update. The reason why they took the highly popular Wally Bear & The Just Say No Gang ideas ('popular' according to a poll done by the U.S. senate) was to teach "our" kids that fighting against drugs was "in" and, by doing so, changing the game's plot. But before we talk more about the remake's plot, let's focus on the main character, Tyrone.

It took all the brain power at Nintendo to think up of a commonly used African-American name. Some of the choices were: Tyrone, Muhammed, Tia. Out of the three they came up with, the esteemed Nintendo panel agreed Tyrone had a nice "ring to it". Mario became the brown Tyrone, Toad was Muhammed, and Princess Toadstool to Tia.

The developers then delve into Ma..er- Tyrone's personal description. Tyrone's new job was to be that of a famous rap 'MC', but what '90s rapper do you know wears a plumbing hat? (And no, ol' dirty bastard while high does NOT count.) Thus, to save the hard working U.S. Nintendo Team, it was decided that the character's job would change to a hard-working social worker (read: a plumber).

Next, since the afro look was definitely in style back then, it was decided to be drawn onto Tyrone.

Now that the heroes were created, the enemies were next. The developers were getting anxious at this time of the project and just decided to paint all the minor characters a brownish color which also corresponded to minorities.

All the game's characters were completed. The Team then started on the drug-free plot and added the famous drug slogan "Just Say No" into SNB. King Koopa A.K.A "Drug lord Dinosaur" shot joints and cigarettes outside of his mouth instead of fireballs. Toad's speech was changed to emphasize drug awareness. (Other subtle changes include blinking "NO" screens which were added to play at the completion of each level.)

Nintendo's intentions did not go down the drain as Super Negro Bros. was dismissed. Oh no, video gaming company Virgin later released MC Kids which STOLE the 'fro and MC ideas! There was even a black kid in the game! You've heard it exclusively here, folks. Stay tuned for more..
*Note: If it isn't obvious enough, these games are completely fiction and have never been discussed as REAL game titles. Nintendo is in no way involved with any games mentioned in this section. It's all in good fun.
