The 80's was a joyous time, full of
life and energy; a simple commerical can tell a lot about
a period of time. In early '90's, 7-up brought to consumers
the cool, new "Spot" advertisement characters. They
were basically only bottlecaps with arms and legs sporting
dark sunglasses- but their image was that of a strong, hip
kind.
Whereas, from Kraft foods, the Kool-Aid Man was still
an ongoing walking ad for the popular fruit drinks- and
still with the Barry White overtone.
These "cool image" advertisement
ploys had attitudes, no doubt, but which held out the longest
and most successful of the two?

The answer to that question would
be Kool- Aid Man. People have brought him into their lives
for years and the craze, although not as hot as before,
is still going relatively strong. However his character
has been downsized from a maniac that unexpectedly crashes
through walls to a now generally hip calmly guy.
And there are still people up to
this day people that continue to collect proofs of purchases
to save up for useless crap like bendable figurines. Marketing
genius!
Spot, on the other hand, wasn't as
lucky. He starred in his own two video games- a puzzle game
on the NES and an adventure title on the SNES- but fare
over these cool guys cooled off mid-90's.
