DVD Version

Here's what I have trouble understanding: Double Dragon (possibly one of the worst movies ever made) gets a DVD, but The Wizard does not. Well, to be exact, there is a German DVD of The Wizard (which is called Joy Stick Heroes over yonder), but none available in North America.

What are the chances of a DVD?

I would say mediocre. It's an old movie, which probably won't get many of people excited save for us NES die-hards and nostalgic fiends, like you and me. I still remain optimistic, though, for the simple fact that Double Dragon made it; proof enough that there's a chance any damn movie can make its way over to DVD. Shit. They've made about six killer Leperchaun movies and released all on discs! Leppie goes to the friggin' hood for Christ's sake!

Are you about to carry a sign for our picket lines? It's easy, just go to SMBHQ's petition to make The Wizard into DVD! Here is the letter of how the petition will look when sent to the big shots:

Dear Sir or Madam,

The purpose of this letter is to briefly detail the enclosed Wizard petition, a petition to re-release the 1989 movie The Wizard (starring Fred Savage, Christian Slater, Beau Bridges, etc.). This petition, signed by myself and over one hundred other people, aims to get this movie re-released on video and DVD. In order to further persuade you, the petition contains questions that essentially amount to free market research.

This project started back in February of 2000, after the Disney Channel failed to show The Wizard as scheduled. After that, I started this petition on the internet, and since then over one hundred people have signed their names. Additionally, several other sites agreed to help me by linking to the petition, and I could not have gotten this many signatures without their assistance.

It may surprise you to learn that I already own The Wizard on VHS. Of course, after ten years, that tape is starting to degrade. That's why I and several other people want the movie to be re-released on DVD. With its sharper picture and clearer sound, DVD will create a whole new Wizard experience.

Therefore, I implore you to forward this petition to those responsible for making re-release decisions. It would make a great deal of people happy (not to mention you richer) if this movie was re-released.

Sincerely,

(signature)
Steven Reich

Hopefully Good Times pictures, or whoever has the rights now, sees that The Wizard truly needs to be re-made into DVD format with perhaps a trailer, making-of TV segment, and commentary from the cast. Is that so much to ask?

No need to answer. I will answer that for you. No. No it is not so much to ask.

C'MON! Double Drag-on. ON DVD!
